Alteration of Plasma Antithrombin III in Normal Pregnancy and Servere Preeclampsia

Abstract
Antithrombin III is the major in vivo serine protease inhibitor and a sensitive indicator of excess clotting activity.
Some author reported that the level of plasma antithrombin III is unaltered during normal pregnancy and primigravida women with preeclampsia had both a significant and potential pathologic decline in antithrombin III level compared to either
healty
pregnant women or women with chronic hypertension.
To investigate the alterations of antithrombin III level in normal pregnancy and severe preeclampsia and investigate the efficiency of antithrombin III level in diagnosis and treatment of severe preeclampsia, plasma was sampled from 254 normal
pregnancy
women without pregnancy complications and hyperteneive condition until 72 hours after delivery and 46 severe preeclampstic women as study group and 35 nonpregnant healthy women were as control group.
There was statistically significant difference between normal pregnancy and severe preeclampsia in antithrombin III level (P<0.0001).
The normal cutoff value of antithrombin III was 21mg/dl by ROC curve.
The specifitity, sensitivity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, efficiency of antithrombin III in diagnosis of severe preeclampsia showed 93%, 78.3%, 67.9%, 96.0%, 90.1%.
Antithrombin III suggest a relatively good test for diagnosis of severe preeclampsia.
